A redfish caught by Dr. Stan Shoemaker of Corpus Christi was certified this week as a new state record in the fly category. Shoemaker caught the 39.125-pound bull red using a polar bear slider fly in the Upper Laguna Madre on Oct. 1. The fish measured 48 inches in length with a 27.375-inch girth. Congratulations Stan. The previous record weighed 35.81 pounds and measured 46.5 inches, caught by George Paauw in February 2007 also from the Upper Laguna Madre.
