The main problem with using the holding tanks in the BVI is that their sewage treatment system is very small and the outer islands do not have much if any sewage treatment. If we pump our boat tanks, there would only be one or two places to pump where the sewage would go through treatment rather than right back into the water along with all of the household sewage. Until the BVI spends millions of dollars on more and larger sewage treatment facilities, the idea of pumping our boat tanks will not do much good at all.

On our last four Moorings charters the boats had holding tanks. We used the tanks when at anchor and discharged while underway and a good distance from land. We also try to use on shore toilets when at anchor for the "solids".

Debra and I simply drink our way through the BVI, so the "solids" are kept to a minimum. Just our way of helping out the fragile BVI eco-system.
