I'm headed down for a 10 day charter on the 18th and am hoping to eat as much fresh fish as possible! We will do some trolling and fishing while at anchor. I know Ciguatera is a problem in the BVI but is there anything I can eat that I catch while at anchor? Are smaller yellow tail safe or is better not to risk anything non pelagic? Also, any tips for places to buy fresh fish throughout the BVI?
Thanks for the info! We can't wait to leave snowy Northern New York!

I cannot speak for anywhere except Anegada. On Anegada, we eat yellowtail, hind (grouper family), small snapper, and blue runner with no fear of ciguatera.

All of them are excellent.

Blue runner? I've only used them as bait, never eaten them.
Could you comment on their taste? How do you prepare them?

Blue runner is prepared about like any other fish. They are very popular here - the grocery stores even sell them.

They are very good to eat - not bloody, fairly mild flavor.
