Our skipper the last two years is buying a Leopard 46. Come this Febuary he is treating the crew of the last two years to a free trip. Planning on flying into STT. What would be a good spot for him to pick us up?

Red Hook (east end of St. Thomas) is much easier than going into Charlotte Amalie.

If he wants to avoid the clear out/clear in/clear out issue of going from BVI to USVI to BVI it is far easier for passengers to go from STT to Tortola.
Otherwise use Red Hook as Walker suggested.

I agree with Lee. It is much easier for crew to ferry from STT to Tortola - West End or Road Town. Same for the return. I was not thinking about the C&I hassle. Add that in, and it is a no-brainer for the crew to ferry over to Tortola.

Still a long ways off. He his only about half way through the buying prcess. If everything works out for him, he will already be down island for about five months before Febuary gets here.

Hey everyone,

I was speaking to CYOA out of STT and they gave me the information below regarding clearing in/out/in of USVI/BVI (CYOA responses in BOLD). Wondering if anyone can confirm?

Hello,

If we charter from you in the USVI -- do we need to go to a US customs dock, and then directly to a BVI customs dock?
NO

OR, do we just pick up the boat and head to a BVI customs dock directly?
YES, after you enjoy St John and enter the BVI waters.

Same question for the return-- do we need to "check out" of bvi before we leave?
The BVI will check you in AND out at the same time so long as you tell them the date you will be leaving the BVI waters. You then re-enter the US at St John or by walking from our dock when you return.

This information is correct. Additionally, only the vessel captain reports to BVI C&I while rest of crew remains relaxing onboard. It usually takes me less than 30 minutes from when I leave the boat to dinghy ashore to when I return to the boat.

Entire crew must report to US C&I. If you arrive with your two US customs forms filled out in advance, it takes about 1 minute to process each couple for US citizens. Processing of vessel manifest and crew list takes about 5~10 minutes.
