We are doing our first bareboat to the BVI’s the third week in June. We have been setting up the float plan and have a question for the first night. We will have a Sunsail Beneteau 343 checking out on Saturday noontime. The rest of our crew arrives into STT Saturday afternoon so we need to connect with them somewhere on Tortola in the evening. The plan is to sail to the Baths on Sunday morning and then overnight in North Sound.

The first question is where to stay on Saturday night. Our friends are new to sailing and have not traveled extensively on their own, so we want to start it off as an easy experience. With that in mind, we are thinking about tying up in a slip or dock in Road Harbor (Village Cay, Fort Burt, (?)) close to the ferry dock, pubs and grub. The evening’s activity would be getting them familiarized with the boat and stowing everything. We plan to leave for VG early Sunday (7-ish) to get a head start on the crowd at the Baths, so the fact that RH is not as picturesque as some other places is not critical. There are other options like Soper’s Hole for Saturday night, but that makes the sail longer on Sunday morning. Going further away from the ferry docks increases the degree of difficulty for the land transport, so we have shied away from that.

Second, what can we expect to be the sail time from wherever we are (RH or SH) to the Baths?

So, have at it, folks, what are your experiences and thoughts about that first night…thanks.

Edit - We have had a suggestion to sail to Trellis Bay and have our crew meet us there. That would get us over to The Baths early in the morning. This makes our guests take a taxi from the WE or RT ferry dock to Trellis. Would that be out of the question?
